Discussion: Changes in Sites of Care
Discussion: Changes in Sites of Care Since the culture and practices of care settings are inherently different, changes in sites of care are often difficult for geriatric patients. Efforts should be made to limit changes to only those necessary; however, sometimes a patient’s situation might require multiple changes in sites of care. When selecting sites of care, such as home, assisted living, rehabilitation facilities, and hospitals, many factors must be considered by patients, their families, and their health care providers. Health status, ability to perform self-care, financial limitations, and patient preferences are all factors that might influence a patient’s site placement. As an advanced practice nurse who recommends sites of care and facilitates changes, you must evaluate factors and consider sites that limit the impact of these changes on geriatric patients. To prepare: Review this week’s media presentation, as well as Chapters 3 and 8 of the Resnick text. Reflect on your personal experiences, observations, and/or clinical practices from the last 5 years. Select a case from the last 5 years that involves an elderly patient who has been in two different sites of care such as home, assisted living, hospital, etc. Note: Discussion: Changes in Sites of Care

When referring to your patient, make sure to use a pseudonym or other false form of identification. This is to ensure the privacy and protection of the patient. Reflect on issues that occurred because of the change in the patient’s sites of care. Think about the impact of differences in the settings themselves, inherent cultures of the settings, and ethical practices of these sites on the patient. Consider whether the patient had an advanced directive in place at the time of the change in sites of care. Reflect on whether any difficult treatment decisions had to be made as a result. Think about the impact of financial issues on site placement and treatment decisions. By Day 3 Post a description of a case from your personal or clinical experiences in the last 5 years that involves an elderly patient who has been in at least two different sites of care. Explain the impact of differences in the settings themselves, inherent culture of the settings, and ethical practices of these sites on the patient. Then, explain whether the patient had an advanced directive in place at the time of the change in sites of care, and if so, whether any difficult treatment decisions had to be made as a result. Finally, explain the impact of financial issues on site placement and treatment decisions. Discussion: Changes in Sites of Care

Introduction to Nursing Research Paper

Introduction to Nursing Research Qualitative Critique Paper Sections to be Addressed Areas for Consideration 1. Research problem The purpose and significance of the study. Is the research problem clearly stated? Indicate if a conceptual framework was used to “frame” the study and how is it linked with the question/purpose. 2. Review of the literature (ch.5) Types of literature used in the review (primary, secondary, seminal). Introduction to Nursing Research Paper Are the studies used in the article conducted within the last 5 years?

How are the studies in the literature review related to the topic of interest? How does the review provide support for the need for the present study? Compare and contrast the major findings in the literature review). 3. Research design Identify the research design and why was a qualitative method most appropriate to study the phenomenon of interest? 4. Sampling Identify the sampling strategies. How were the participants selected? How was the sample size determined? 5. Ethical considerations How were human rights protected? 6. Data collection Explain the data collection process. 7. Data analysis How was the data analyzed? 8. Rigor (trustworthiness) (Ch. 14) How did the researcher maintain trustworthiness? (credibility, confirmability, dependability, transferability) 9. Findings (themes/sub-themes) Identify the themes/subthemes. Are study limitations identified? 10 Points 10. Nursing implications What are the strengths and weaknesses of this study? How will this study impact your nursing practice? 11. APA 7th ed. Format The paper, cover & reference pages must follow APA 6th ed guidelines & include correct spelling, grammar & sentence structure. Collaborative Learning Community Question

This is a Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) assignment. The purpose of this assignment is to complete a discrete and normal distribution analysis. Part 1: For this assignment, your group will utilize the preliminary data collected in the Topic 2 assignment. Considering the specific requirements of your scenario, complete the following steps using Excel. The accuracy of formulas and calculations will be assessed. Select the appropriate discrete probability distribution. If using a binomial distribution, use the constant probability from the collected data and assume a fixed number of events of 20.

If using a Poisson distribution, use the applicable mean from the collected data. Identify the following: the probability of 0 events occurring, the probability of <5 events occurring, and the probability of ?10 events occurring. Using the mean and standard deviation for the continuous data, identify the applicable values of X for the following: Identify the value of X of 20% of the data, identify the value of X for the top 10% of the data, and 95% of the data lies between two values of X. Part 2 Provide a 250-500 word summary that includes the following. Interpretation of various probability distributions that were calculated, including justification of the type of distribution selected. Interpretation of the results of the various value of X calculations that were completed. Submit the Excel spreadsheet and Word summary document. While APA style is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, and documentation of sources should be presented using APA formatting guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. Collaborative Learning Community Question

Development of Colorectal Cancer

Case Study Assignment Requirements 1. Make sure all of the topics in the case study have been addressed. 2. Cite at least three references in your case study paper; this may include peer-reviewed journal articles, textbooks, or evidence-based practice websites to support the content. 3. All reference sources must be within 5 years. 4. Do not use sources such as Wikipedia or UpToDate as a reference. 5. Assignments must have at least four full pages of analytic content, double-spaced (the cover and reference pages do not count in the page count, but must be included with the assignment), and follow APA 7th edition format. Case Study 5: Disorders of Gastrointestinal Function Marcee is a 52-year-old woman who worked at a reception desk at a company head office. She took some time off when she was treated for colorectal cancer. The Dukes classification was stage I, and the treatment protocol involved surgery and radiation therapy. No one in her family had a history of the disease. Marcee does not drink or smoke, but she does not pay close attention to her diet. At work, her meals consisted mainly of the foods she got from vending machines at the cafeteria. At home, she preferred to heat up frozen dinners or any prepackaged food that required minimal preparation time. 1. Review Marcee’s diet. What factors in her dietary choices might contribute to the development of colorectal cancer? 2. Development of Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer often arises from adenomatous polyps. What are the development and histologic features of these polyps? 3. Colorectal cancer may be a complication in individuals with ulcerative colitis. How are the “pseudopolyps” seen in this disease different from the polyps discussed above? 4. Why is a fecal occult blood test used as one of the screening tools for colorectal cancer? Explain the procedure for administering the test. Before finalizing your work, it is important to: * Review Case Study Assignment Requirements (described above) and the Case Study Assignment Grading Rubric (under the Course Resources), to ensure you have completed all required elements of the assignment. * Make sure to review your chosen case study carefully to make sure you have effectively answered all questions asked. * Utilize spelling and grammar checks to minimize errors. * Follow the conventions of Standard American English (correct grammar, punctuation, etc.). * Make sure your assignment is original, insightful, and utilizes your logic and critical thinking skills; that your assignment is well-organized, with superior content, style, and mechanics. * Utilize APA 7th Edition format. * Be diligent about APA formatting including paraphrasing and direct quotations, utilizing appropriate in-text citations, and referencing your sources. ******Course textbook: Norris, T.
